One word sums up this solid black doe - WOW! She's one of those
does that doesn't necessarily catch your eye at first, but once you start
looking closely at her, it's hard to find a flaw. She has nice length
of body, super wide ribs, great skin, and just overall wonderful dairy
character. And then there's her mammary system...although still a bit
immature, this udder is incredibly attached everywhere with nice long teats
that have huge orifices - a dream for milking! Her rear udder is high,
wide and tight. Her foreudder has nice extension although there is a
small shelf present.
Polly has started this kidding season off by
presenting us with a single buckling on Dec. 20, 08. Of course, it's
totally freezing here and we're in between two awful snowstorms. We're
going to let Polly raise her little boy, as we don't have any other babies
his age that could keep him warm.

Shadow is just that
- a shadow of her dam, Polly. Shadow is a very elegant little girl,
and would do well in the show ring if her attitude would improve a little ~.
Shadow kidded with quads - 2 bucks, 2 does, all gorgeous. Her udder is
tightly attached with great texture and nice big, easily-milked teats.
She's really milking well, milking nearly 4 lbs/day - she's a keeper!
As a yearling, Shadow
miraculously survived a horrible bout of Entero. Her body temperature
was too cold to even register on the thermometer. This poor little
girl was the sickest I've ever seen in a goat, and still survived the
ordeal. However, that is not to say that there isn't residual damage.
Clostridium will emit neurotoxins, and although she's healthy and happy now,
she still has some trouble with coordinating her front legs. It's
probably too noticeable for the show ring, but since she's such a beautiful
doe, she can just stay home and be an outstanding brood doe.

Show
Record: GCH Sr. x 1 (ADGA leg)
"Wee Gee" has got to
be the sweetest dam-raised kid I've ever seen! She was so incredibly
shy at first, and has now blossomed into a very, very sweet little thing.
Aside from her adorable personality, she's an extremely correct doe, and
pretty true to the style of kid that King is throwing.
WeeGee has a beautifully attached udder with super soft skin and nicely
placed teats. Her downfall is that she doesn't have a whole lot of
capacity. She kidded this year with a single doe, and that may be part
of the problem.
At Wee Gee's first
show (ever), she garnered GCH Sr. doe - and with hardly milk! She was
very, very stressed, and literally didn't eat or drink a thing the whole
time we were at the show. But, luckily the judge could see beyond her
lack of milk, and saw what beautiful mammary attachments she has, as well as
beautiful conformation. Udder picture is of Wee Gee's littermate
sister, "Bunny".

Irish Whisper Workin' Girl
Sire:
Velvet Acres Flash JackDaniels

Callie is structurally very correct, and has quite
a bit of depth of body. We feel that she has tremendous potential in the
mammary department, given who her parents are. Their dam, Workin'
Girl, has an incredible mammary system that is just loaded with attachment,
and their sire, J.D., has been throwing beautiful udders.
Callie's
first freshening udder was super tiny but looked to be well attached.
We're going to give Callie another year to see what she can do.
Update: Callie freshened with a single kid, and has gain some
capacity. She still needs more capacity to be competitive, so
hopefully she'll kid with more than just one baby next time!

Well, Tootsie. She's just a bit spoiled, and
certainly much larger than her kid photo above. Tootsie is a very big
improvement over her dam in many areas - overall udder attachment and
especially in the front end assembly. But, like her dam, she is quite
the easy-keeper. Her udder is tightly attached with beautiful texture
and nice, plumb teats. I'd like to see her teats a bit larger, but I'm
spoiled by the large teats of the other does. She's still quite easy
to milk, and can't forget what a character she is! We're retaining her
little doe, "Circus Freak" who is linebred on Gun Slinger.

Well, Patticake has
some issues.... She was a single kid born to Peek-a-boo and was still
somehow so twisted up that neither goat barely survived the kidding.
Patticake incurred a broken rear leg during the whole ordeal, and although
it was immediately splinted by the vet - and is now fully healed - she
refuses to use it while walking. She'll use it to scratch her ears and
to occasionally balance herself, but that's it. She's got some
psychological issues concerning the whole leg. Plus, she lived in the
house with me over the winter so she's now got some serious issues being a
goat. Poor little thing.... :o( But, I just love this
little doe - if it wasn't for that rear leg, she'd be one of my top show
prospects. She's got tremendous length and depth of body, and just
oozes dairy character. Plus, her mom made Top Ten as a yearling doe,
so the genetics are awesome as well.
I should mention
that in the udder picture, Patticake was NOT bagged. That particular
day was the day after one of her kids was sold, so she was only nursing one.
Still, and although I'm biased, I think her udder is just beautiful!
Patticake is, and continues to be, my very best brood doe!

Rosie is one of
quads born to Patticake in 2006. She looks quite a bit
like Patticake, both in coloring and in conformation, although
I think she may be a little longer bodied than Patticake.
Rosie is the product of a tight linebreeding and we're really
hoping for some serious mammary genetics! Like her
mother, Rosie is a very easy keeper, and tends to gain weight
easily.
Update: Rosie
has turned out to be quite the little dairy doe! She's
milked off all of her 'baby-fat' and is looking beautiful.
Additionally, she's milking well and has a beautiful mammary
system. She's definitely on our show string!

Irish Whisper Fancy Ginger

("Fancy", now living across the
Rainbow Bridge)
Sire: Velvet Acres Flash JackDaniels
D.O.B. 5/9/06
What stands out most about Ginger are her big,
beautiful eyes, so reminiscent of her mother's expressive eyes. But,
she's also got her mom's wonderful personality and calm, entertaining
disposition. Ginger is now even more special to us since the untimely,
tragic loss of her dam. Although we've got very high hopes for Ginger,
she will always remain with us no matter how she turns out. Ginger's
2nd freshening udder remains very tightly attached, but with not as much
capacity as we had hoped. Her udder is somewhat deceiving, however,
since she milks completely down. We're hoping that more maturity will
bring added capacity - the only thing needed to make her perfect!

Sugar Creek Valeda Moth
Dam: Sugar Creek Sandflea
Sire: 4 Fun Gay-Mor
Pot-O-Gold
D.O.B. 3- -05
I
bought Leda based solely on the consistency of her sire, "Indy". So far,
Indy has produced some exceptional kids, and those that have freshened have
had superb mammary systems. Added to that are the wonderful qualities
that her dam exhibits, so we figured we couldn't go wrong. We're so happy to have our "Li'l Loleda"!
Leda has freshened
with a small, but glued-on first udder. She also has beautifully
shaped, plumb teats that are easy to milk. Leda remains a very easy
keeper, and here that means 'fat'... <g>, but we still think she has a lot
to offer.
