We were so tickled pink to be able to
acquire this girl! I just can't wait to get her into the show
ring - she's long and level, plenty of width and yet is very
feminine and loaded with dairy character. Her udder is just as
snug as they come, beautifully shaped and soft, and has clearly
one of the best - if not the best - udder in my herd (not that you
can tell by the horrible, hairy picture above!). After a nasty
kidding a couple years ago, Lassie has proven to be difficult to
settle.
Well, we had plans on retiring Lassie, but
her will to kid again brought her back into the game. Since she
wouldn't leave the buck barn (just longingly staring at the boys
<g>), we decided to go ahead and breed her. Willie was her chosen
date, for which she seemed quite grateful. We'll see if she
settles - if she does, a doe will surely be retained. This is an
udder breeding to be sure - Lassie has one of the best udders in
the herd, and Willie throws incredible udders. Can't miss on this
one!

One word sums up this solid black doe -
WOW! She's one of those does that doesn't necessarily catch your
eye at first, but once you start looking closely at her, it's hard
to find a flaw. She has nice length of body, super wide ribs,
great skin, and just overall wonderful dairy character. And then
there's her mammary system...although still a bit immature, this
udder is incredibly attached everywhere with nice long teats that
have huge orifices - a dream for milking! Her rear udder is high,
wide and tight. Her foreudder has nice extension although there
is a small shelf present.
Polly has started this kidding season off
by presenting us with a single buckling on Dec. 20, 08. Of
course, it's totally freezing here and we're in between two awful
snowstorms. We're going to let Polly raise her little boy, as we
don't have any other babies his age that could keep him warm.

Shadow is just that - a shadow of her dam,
Polly. Shadow is a very elegant little girl, and would do well in
the show ring if her attitude would improve a little ~. Shadow
kidded with quads - 2 bucks, 2 does, all gorgeous. Her udder is
tightly attached with great texture and nice big, easily-milked
teats. She's really milking well, milking nearly 4 lbs/day -
she's a keeper!
As a yearling, Shadow miraculously survived
a horrible bout of Entero. Her body temperature was too cold to
even register on the thermometer. This poor little girl was the
sickest I've ever seen in a goat, and still survived the ordeal.
However, that is not to say that there isn't residual damage.
Clostridium will emit neurotoxins, and although she's healthy and
happy now, she still has some trouble with coordinating her front
legs. It's probably too noticeable for the show ring, but since
she's such a beautiful doe, she can just stay home and be an
outstanding brood doe.

Well, Patticake has some issues.... She was
a single kid born to Peek-a-boo and was still somehow so twisted
up that neither goat barely survived the kidding. Patticake
incurred a broken rear leg during the whole ordeal, and although
it was immediately splinted by the vet - and is now fully healed -
she refuses to use it while walking. She'll use it to scratch her
ears and to occasionally balance herself, but that's it. She's
got some psychological issues concerning the whole leg. Plus, she
lived in the house with me over the winter so she's now got some
serious issues being a goat. Poor little thing.... :o( But, I
just love this little doe - if it wasn't for that rear leg, she'd
be one of my top show prospects. She's got tremendous length and
depth of body, and just oozes dairy character. Plus, her mom made
Top Ten as a yearling doe, so the genetics are awesome as well.
I should mention that in the udder picture,
Patticake was NOT bagged. That particular day was the day after
one of her kids was sold, so she was only nursing one. Still,
and although I'm biased, I think her udder is just beautiful!
Patticake is, and continues to be, my very best brood doe!

Rosie is one of quads born to Patticake in
2006. She looks quite a bit like Patticake, both in coloring and
in conformation, although I think she may be a little longer
bodied than Patticake. Rosie is the product of a tight
linebreeding and we're really hoping for some serious mammary
genetics! Like her mother, Rosie is a very easy keeper, and tends
to gain weight easily.
Update: Rosie has turned out to be quite
the little dairy doe! She's milked off all of her 'baby-fat' and
is looking beautiful. Additionally, she's milking well and has a
beautiful mammary system. She's definitely on our show string!

I'm so excited about Goldie - she has that
certain 'look-at-me' aire about her, and for good reason - she's
gorgeous! If she turns out anything like her older sister, Rosie,
then she'll be a keeper for sure!
Sure enough, Goldie freshened beautifully.
We love her mammary system being so tightly attached, nice-sized
teats, and a lovely foreudder.

Cotton is just a stunning doe, all the way
around. This picture really needs some updating! She freshened
with a beautiful "Willie"-type udder (high, wide, tightly attached
with nice-sized teats, not that you can tell by the above
picture...). She's also lost quite a bit of her 'baby-fat' and is
now a beautiful, sleek, long-bodied, sharp dairy doe.

Emmie has returned to us after being sold
as a young kid. She's a first freshening 2 yr. old, and despite
the not-so-good picture above, she's got a really lovely udder and
nice conformation. Her milk capacity is only average, but I'm
assuming it will increase with more freshenings. Emmie is one of
those does that just kind of blends in with the rest of the herd,
however, I think that she's really going to shine as a second
freshener. She's got all the right parts in all the right places,
and if we can get her to be just a little bit more cooperative, I
think she'll be unstoppable! We think so much of Emmie that we
even kept her buck kid by IW Raisin' Cain, "Sting".

Irish Whisper W Soda Pop
Dam: Irish Whisper Tootsie Pop
Sire: Sugar Creek C Willful

Although bottle-raised, Soda's really
inherited her dam's personality...entitled <g>! Soda, like her
dam, is also a real sweetheart. She's really a nicely put
together package also. So far, Willie is putting beautifully
clean, wide escutcheons on his kids, and adding quite a bit of
dairy character. Soda is a high-headed, very stylish doe. We've
bred Soda to Spike for February babies. So far, the Willie/Spike
cross has worked beautifully. Soda freshened with twin bucks, and
has a beautiful little udder. Only a few days fresh at this
point, but she has tons of attachment, a beautiful udder floor,
nice sized, plumb teats, rear udder height and width, and a very
nicely extended foreudder. I'd like to see a bit more capacity,
but I expect that to improve as time goes on. Definitely a
keeper!
